GRAND HAVEN — The Harbor Island Sunfest is having some good news/bad news experiences before it can even debut its new daylong music festival.

The bad news is that headliners Lifehouse and special guest Chris Medina from “American Idol” and his band The Able Body will be no-shows for Saturday’s event.

The good news is the show will go on — and it will be free.

Seven bands will appear at the concert presented by the Grand Haven Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 925 on the 140-acre island on the Grand River.

Performances will begin at 1 p.m. and will feature Wayland, which hails from Wayland, south of Grand Rapids by way of Los Angeles. The band is making some noise right now with its cover of the Bob Seger hit, “Fire Down Below,” which is even getting some air time on WGRD. “Shopping for a Savior” from the band’s CD also is getting favorable comments.

Also performing at Sunfest is Battle Creek’s 8 Foot Grimiss which will bring its high powered high energy rock, blues and classic rock to the stage. The band has opened for touring bands such as Shallow Side Sore Eyes, Bobaflex and Stephen Pearcy, the voice of RATT. In March, 8 Foot Grimiss shared the stage with Billy Youngblood and the Smoking Gorillas, Jani Lane of Warrant, Bang Tango and Taproot.

Also performing will be hip-hop artist Sevin and rockers, Deepfield, Sidetrack and Prospect Hill, from the music festivals original slate. The band, Pale, has been added to the lineup.

Four concessioners will be selling a variety of food items during the concert and beer and wine coolers also will be available. Music lovers of all ages are welcome but no pets are allowed.

Those who have already purchased the $19 concert tickets can receive a full refund by returning them to Grand Haven Eagles headquarters, 20 N. Second.

For those who do not request a refund, ticketholders will be given VIP seating at Saturday’s concert where there will be a cash bar available, and a meet and greet will be held with all the bands.

Harbor Island sits between the north and south channels of the Grand River in Grand Haven, and is home to a marina and restaurant as well as a number of trails and roads.

Gates open at noon.

Lifehouse and Chris Medina and The Able Body backed out of their appearance at Sunfest at the last minute Wednesday because of a contract technicality they had with another promoter. Lifehouse will perform at Val Du Lakes in Mears on Aug. 13.

Band representatives told the Eagles, the bands will make all possible efforts to return to Grand Haven soon.”
